About A Day's A Day...

Previous Entry A Day's A Day... Jul. 28th, 2005 @ 02:57 pm Next Entry
So, my german friend Johann has been visiting for the last few days. With work I wasn't able to hang out with him much until today- and I spent the whole day hanging out.

First, we tried in vain to get some other people he knew from around here to join us, but no one was home/answering their phones/on planet earth anymore. One girl even seemed to have changed into a man...

Anyways, we then left to Arizona Mills Mall where we had lunch then enjoyed the games at Gameworks. He beat me 2 to 1 at air hockey, but I slaughtered his score on any shooting game we played. (Even got the highscore on one game. It's by house of the dead and is a cop game, but I don't remember the name... Leathal Enforcers, maybe...) We then returned to my car to find it broken into.

Now, some people in that situation would feel shocked and violated. I actually had my pride hurt, but my system proved to be a sucessful one! I took my radio faceplate with me and returned to an unlocked door. So they jimmied it open, that was nice of them. Then I discovered my radio sitting on my floorboard waiting for me. They undid the dashkit and unplugged the harness which means I only have to solder my amp-remote wire, otherwise no damage. Also, my Infinity Basslink was still there thanks to Harmon-Kardon's ingenious idea of designing it to be screwed in place. It ain't coming out without some effort! Though they did end up stealing some stuff from Johann.

A badly scratched CD of a German rastafarian band which he had told me earlier he was going to toss and buy a new copy of, and his empty Snoopdog CD case. (The CD was still in the radio.) Mind you, he was annoyed by the fact that he won't be returning with the CD leaflet (American copies of the CD have a different book than the copies in Germany) but he wasn't really miffed by it.

And that defines a waste of effort on some theif's behalf. But I still feel that my stereo was worth stealing once he got it out even if he didn't think so!

After that, we saw Star Wars, (again for both of us, appearantly).

All in all, I'd saw it was a pretty good day.

I'm sorry to hear about the car. I had mine broken into a couple of years ago. Like you they tried for the headunit, and I too had taken the faceplate with me. This didn't stop them though. They took the stereo, along with the amp, sub, parcel shelf, my sunglasses, and pretty much anything else I had lying around in the car.

I was absolutely livid when I realised; a mixture of anger towards those that had committed the crime and a sickness from the violation of personal space. I can only imagine how awful it must feel to have your own home broken into.

This incident made me realise how materialistic I am, and still are. While I'd like not to be, I find it difficult to detach emotional security from the objects I possess.

I can under stand how you must've felt, which is why it's a good thing I always assume the worst of people. (That's why I picked a sub setup that would be screwed into my car with long sheetmetal screws.)

In retrospect, however, I'm a bit suprised at my reaction to discovering this scene. It went a little like this-

Hmmm... Did I forget to lock my door? No because I remember locking it while asking Johann to lock his. Oh it must've been broken into. I wonder if they stole the radio. That's be pointless since it has no face. Nope, still there but on the floor. Great, I'll have to re-solder the amp wire. Is my sub still there? Yep. Jeez, my stuff wasn't worth the effort? Atleast they didn't break my window. Huh. I'm kinda hungry.

Couldn't say how I would've felt if they had stolen something, but they fact that it was broken into just didn't seem to matter to me. Now if they had broken my window to get in, I would've been livid. Radios are temporary and unimportant, though they are entertaining. Cars on the other hand... Well, this is Arizona and in monsoon season. Hurt my car and I will hunt you down.

People don't seem to be having a lot of luck with cars this month. :/

If it isn't one thing, it's another. This is what happens when you live in a large city in a massive country. Cars become a major source of everything in life. *shrugs* C'est la vie.

I can totally relate. I remember walking back and forth, thinking "My car SHOULD be here..it SHOULD be" and it took almost a minute for it to sink in that it wasn't, and that someone moved it.

Seeing my car at the impound lot for the first time with the broken window, all of my stuff gone, and someone else's stuff in there was weird too..but I got over it.

One girl changed into a man? That sounds like an interesting story.

Oh it's not really that interesting. I just over do my story telling. The entire thing went like this-

*Me calling the phone number for Heather, a former violist in my old highschool orchestra*
Voicemail - *In a deep, masculine voice* "Hi, this is Heather. I'm not able to answer my phone right now, but if you could pl-"
*I hang up and check the phone number*
Me - "Well... That was odd..."

Not really what I make it out to be, as you can see. But it was pretty strange especially since Heather wasn't really the type of person to do anything... Funny like have a guy to her voicemail for her. But what do we really know about the people we know?
